Save Les Halles for the morning

Narbonne's covered market is not an item to squeeze in after lunch. The City of Narbonne's market page lists Les Halles as open from 07:00 to 14:00 and describes more than seventy food businesses in its Baltard pavilion. Go early enough to see the counters in full rhythm, then have coffee or assemble a picnic without treating working stalls as scenery.

After the market, return to the cathedral quarter or take one last canal walk. Leave enough time to collect luggage and reach the platform without turning the final hour into a sprint. Lunch can be the flexible element if a train moves; the international ticket cannot.

Know when to abandon the overnight

If the timetable offers only a late arrival and an early return, save Narbonne for another date. The night should create a usable market morning and an unhurried evening, not merely two border crossings and a hotel bill.

In disruption, do not improvise a chain of separate tickets unless the operator confirms it. Ask whether the booked service is protected, identify the next route through Perpignan, and keep enough money for food or a delayed arrival—not for an unplanned cross-border taxi.
